The Traynor YCV40WR Custom Valve 40 Combo Amp is based on the extremely popular YCV40, which was a Guitar Player Editor's Pick Award Winner. Real tube overdrive is produced by 3 Sovtek 12AX7WA preamp tubes while 2 - 5881s deliver 40W of real tube power. A 12" Celestion Vintage 30 speaker faithfully renders all that sweet tube tone. Wine-red leatherette, oatmeal grille, and chromeplated corners give this Traynor amp a rich boutique look. The 3 basic tones-clean, crunch, and overdrive-are easily defined, with great tone at low levels, shine and punch at full tilt. Although signal-to-noise is not normally a specification that is discussed where guitar amplifiers are concerned, the ultraquiet Custom Valve 40WR makes it an issue. Auto-matching tube circuit and the DC filaments on the preamp tubes all but eliminate hum.
